Anticipation Guide Steps
1. First preview the book you are about to read. Carefully read and look at the title, picture on the cover, summary on the back cover, titles of the chapters, and any pictures within the book.
2. Next, make several educated guesses (or predictions) about what the book may be about. Write these predictions in the numbered boxes on the left hand side of the anticipatoin guide.
3. Next, write "A" or "D" in the second column whether you agree or disagree with your predictions/statements.
4. While you read the book, confirm whether or not your predictions were correct. Write the page number where you found the information to prove or disprove your prediction.
5. Then write "yes" or "no" depending on whether your predictions were correct.
6. Finally, reflect on your predictions and the actual events from the book. You may consider questions like these when reflecting:
- Why do you think your
prediction was correct or
incorrect?
- What details from the book
make you believe your
prediction was correct or
incorrect?
- Was it easy or difficult to
make this prediction? Why
was it difficult or why was it
easy?
- Do you have any new
predicitons knowing what
you know now in the
book? Write your new
prediciton.
