Q: What is a Lexile measure?
A: There are two types of Lexile measures: the Lexile reader measure and the Lexile text measure. The Lexile reader measure measures students' reading ability. The Lexile text measure measures the difficulty of a text.
Q: How do I get my child's Lexile score?
A: Your child's reading ability is tested three times each year: once in September, December, and May. Also, students who attend summer school are tested in order to determine their Lexile scores/level. Your child's English teacher or summer school teacher can provide you with your child's Lexile score. All teachers' emails are available on-line through the Bloom Trail website.

Q: What does a lexile score mean?
A: Reader Lexile scores are equal to a grade level in school (see the chart to the right). For example, if you are in 9th grade your Lexile reading score should be around 1100. A Lexile score gives both students and teachers an idea of a student's reading ability.
Q: What can I do with my Lexile score?
A: Your reading Lexile score can be matched with books at the same Lexile measure. These "just right" books will help you increase your reading ability without getting frustrated. Check out the website tab "Book Lists" for suggested books at your reading level.
Q: Who do I contact if I have a question about my child's Lexile reading score?
A: You can contact your child's English teacher. All teachers' email addresses can be accessed through the Bloom Trail website.
