Check out these free reading games!  They are sure to help you improve your reading skills. 

Book Adventure - You can create a free account with only an email and get access to thousands of books at your reading level and quizzes that earn you points to choose free prizes. 

Vocabulary - Choose from hundreds of free vocabulary games!  You are bound to find your favorite one while increasing your vocabulary skills!. 

Battleship - Play a game of Battleship while working on your inference skills.

Literacy Resource for Students in Grades 9-12 - This site provides many reading resource pages that high schoolers can use.  Check out the "Focusing on Words" link and "CNN Learning Sources" for some interactive high school reading games.   

 

 

 

Did you know...

 

1.  Reading is the most important subject in school because you need reading to master most of the other subjects like history, English, and math.

 

2.  Across the world, students who read the most, read the best.  And that includes all social levels - rich or poor, suburban or urban. 

 

3.  You must hear a word before you can say it or read and write it.  This is why reading to your child is so important!  If your child is older or you have difficulty reading, have your child listen to books on tapes.  Your public library will have audio books available for free. 

 

4.  Children who come from homes with the most print - books, magazines, and newspapers - have the highest reading scores.  They also use the library more than those students with lower reading scores.  Make sure there are enjoyable things for your child to read at home.  Check out the books, magazines, and audio books your public library has to offer for free!  

    

5.  One of the easiest ways to promote more reading in the home is using closed-captioning on your TV!  Be careful though, research shows that students who watch more than 10 hours of TV a week tend to have lower reading scores and grades in school.
