How do I get a library card?

1.  You need to go to the library in your community and present a photo ID and proof of residence. 

 

Acceptable forms of photo ID:

- State driver's license or state ID

  (this can also be a form of proof of

   residence if the address is

   current)

- Student ID from school within the

   library district

- U.S. Armed Forces ID card

- U.S. or foreign passports

- Canadian or Mexican consular ID

   cards

 

Acceptable forms of proof of residence:

- Lease or property tax documents

- Utility bill in applicant's name

- First class mail postmarked in the

  last 3 days

 

2.  Once you have a library card, you can borrow books from any library in the Metropolitan Library System (MLS) which covers the entire Chicagoland area.
